ARCADE Architects believe that architecture is fundamentally about people.
Buildings and places are the setting for people’s lives and play an active role in their well being. As a design-led practice, we aim to make sustainable buildings and places that enhance the lives of all those who come into contact with them - from those who live or work in them, to those who use them occasionally, to those who are simply passing by.
We believe that good design is inherently sustainable and should not impose itself on the end user. On the contrary it should seek to draw out a positive and imaginative response. Good design enables a creative experience to happen.
Good design is not just about appearance. It’s also about how well the building or place operates, the quality of the construction and its sustainability. In delivering good design we believe it is important to manage the process effectively to ensure that the project’s costs are within the client’s budget and that the project is completed on time.
We listen to our clients in order to understand their needs or organisation in terms of strategy, operational issues, financial objectives and budget requirements. We place high value on good communication and we aim to tailor our service to suit every client’s specific needs.

We are able to advise clients on all aspects of architectural design from the earliest stages of a project right through to completion of work on site. We manage the process carefully.
Our expertise covers all aspects of architectural design, including initial feasibility studies carried out to establish viability, design proposals, design development in detail, specification of materials, and special items such as lighting, finishes, furnishings and bespoke furniture.
Where appropriate we also advise our clients on the need for other consultants, such as structural and services engineers, quantity surveyors, landscape architects, hydraulic engineers, lighting and interior designers and management and economic consultants.
We understand all aspects of project management, co-ordinating and obtaining competitive tenders, letting and administering contracts and carrying out site inspections. As part of this process, we also deal with applications for Building Warrant, Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent.
In a recent survey our clients said that we are strong on design, good at managing projects and responsive, efficient and good at communicating with them. Our service is perceived as friendly and approachable.
We've won a number of awards for our work and our Mossman Houses project in Merchiston, Edinburgh was short listed for the RIAS / Doolan Award for Architecture - Scotland's top architectural award .
